Jon Ruben admitted 17 offences at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

A person who contaminated candy with tranquilliser and provided them to children at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two boys who were nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer camp which he operated.

Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court the man had engaged in this activity with the children "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the next day.

She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in recently.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.

"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC said materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his family member contacted the authorities about his worries.

She stated the defendant went on to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"The police had not gone out by that stage," she continued.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The legal representative stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the police again.

She stated Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
