The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Lead to Revitalize Challenged Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Shift Comes After Poor Response

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated team members about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a distinct direction.

Ismailer stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

The news follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the full message from the president's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to continue.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the criticism to heart and revamped the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s positioned to fulfill its potential to our fans.

The belief in this project strengthens every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of the team. Following a period of conversations, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His management and expertise in the competitive gaming space is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most well-known titles in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in welcoming Ben soon. We are all eager to continue observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to come.

The President

Background of the New Head

Brinkman presently serves in the position of executive producer and production lead at the renowned studio for their flagship title. Brinkman previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Concept

Project Ethos was revealed in last year together with a public demo. Then, the developers portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the category."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary states. "Take on the rivals with unique powers, risks, and tests that evolve every match. Will you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and hope your group can earn top ranking? The choice is yours."

Project Ethos has not yet received an official release date or supported systems, but players can look forward to more updates as development progresses.
